ONA Wins Layoff Arbitration - AGAIN!
How Many Times Do These Hospitals Need To Lose?
ONA has received yet another arbitration award that upholds our rights to layoff notice and ALL the options that go with that. The hospital had ignored the layoff provisions and had reassigned nurses who's jobs were surplus to vacancies rather than providing the nurses with layoff notice and the rights that are outlined in our contract for long-term layoffs.  This is exactly what HHS has done!! We have asked the HHS to reconsider it's actions in light of this latest award - stay tuned

The Hamilton Health Sciences management have made a decision to ignore nurses' layoff rights.  They notified the Local 70 on Monday that they were eliminating over 50 RN positions.  They will not declare these eliminations as layoffs and intend to REASSIGN these nurses.

They flagrantly admit to eliminating RNs with a plan to immediately hire RPNs to replace us.  These decisions are NOT about quality patient care - they are strictly about $$$

What is ONA Doing?

ONA has put HHS on notice that we will be disputing each and every one of these violations of our contract.  We WILL be filing grievances IMMEDIATELY.

What do YOU need to do?

If you are affected - Contact your ONA Executive Rep(s) to guide you in the grievance process (Connie Ross is Grievance VP and can be reached at 905-318-5773 #1). DO THIS IMMEDIATELY - there are time limits.
